(Melville Vineyards and Winery Chardonnay Estate Sta. Rita Hills) ($30) Light yellow. Fresh, energetic nose offers brisk green apple and quince scents complicated by anise and honeysuckle. Gains weight on the palate, picking up suave peach and kiwi flavors but maintaining energy and focus. Finishes chewy and quite long. This got just 5% new French oak, and, according to Greg Brewer, this might be the last year that any new wood is used. 91 points |
