IWC: By Stephen Tanzer
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Issue #129, November/December 2006)
(Domaine Weinbach Riesling Cuvee Saint Catherine) ($49; finished with a glass stopper) Pale gold color. Musky aromas of honeyed botrytis, pineapple, tangerine and stony earth. Sweet on entry, then rich and tactile but fairly dry in the middle, with a flavor of tangerine. Offers good density of texture and comes across as quite young. Finishes long and a bit aggressive. This fruit comes from the bottom of the Schlossberg slope, with about 20% of these vines outside the grand cru border. 89 points |
