WS: Solidly ripe, but in more of a Rhône style, with lots of grilled herb, pepper, briar and black currant aromas and flavors, with a structured, minerally finish. Drink now through 2009. 1,468 cases made. –JM |

($47) Bright ruby-red. Highly perfumed nose features black raspberry. blackberry and licorice, all lifted by spices. Then densely packed and rather powerful, in a cooler, classic style and extremely young today. This comes across as sweet yet dry, with a strong spice character. Finishes with firm tannic spine and lovely aromatic persistence. Impressive. (Incidentally, I was also shown the 1997 bottling of this wine, also from a cooler year, and it was a knockout, with a Northern Rhone-like white pepper aroma; a very suave texture; and Cornas-like notes of meat and truffle. I rated it a solid 92 points.) 91(+?) points |
