WA: The brilliant 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Les Gallimardes tips the scales at 15% natural alcohol. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a sumptuous nose of raspberries, black cherries, blackberries, and chocolate, this broad, full-bodied Chateauneuf is loaded with concentrated, ripe fruit flavors, good acidity (which provides definition), and a blockbuster, thick, unctuously textured finish with considerable tannin. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15. This is a super effort from Domaine Giraud. |
